Strength of materials (Festigkeitslehre)

The strength of materials is a subject which deals with the effect of external forces on elastic bodies (and structures) which are basically in a state of equilibrium. It can be considered to be a part of mechanics and is partly based on the principles of statics. In addition, it uses experimentally obtained data about the changes in the dimensions of elastic bodies when external forces act on them
