Discussions on the increase in the volume and value of Mergers and Acquisitions (M&As1) during the last decade have become commonplace in the economic and business press (Jarillo 2003; Gaughan 2002; Jansen 2001, and Picot 2000). According to an article in the Neue Zürcher Zeitung, the merger-and-acquisition carrousel turned faster in 2005 than at any other time during the last five years (Neue Zürcher Zeitung 2005).
