In einer doppelseitigen Werbeanzeige für die Zeitschrift „manager magazin“(im „Stern“ vom 23.06.1999, S. 188-189) sind drei wichtig anmutende Männer in GeschäftsanzǼgen abgebildet, die gemeinsam in einem Aufzug fahren. Offenbar handelt es sich um Börsenhändler. Zu jeder Person gibt es einen kommentierenden Text: Das Bild des einen Mannes trägt die Untertitelung „Chefhändler“, das des zweiten: „Wenn der Kurs fällt, wird er Chefhändler“, und das des dritten: „Wenn der Kurs steigt, wird er Chefhändler“. Dieser Anzeige liegt offenbar eine Alltagstheorie der Elitenzirkulation, des Aufstiegs und des „Falls“ von Führungskräften zugrunde, die man so rekonstruieren kann: Erstens sind sowohl Aufstieg und Abstieg von hochrangigen Fach- und Fährungskräften „im Folgenden spreche ich von organisationalen Eliten4 “ durch Umweltveränderungen (in der Anzeige: Kursänderungen) beeinflusst. Zweitens haben Aufstieg und Abstieg etwas mit den Fähigkeiten und dem erfolgreichen Handeln der (potenziellen) Eliten zu tun, hier u.a. mit der Fähigkeit, Kursentwicklungen richtig und rechtzeitig prognostizieren zu können. Drittens besteht eine Konkurrenz, eine Art Machtkampf um knappe Positionen. In der Anzeige wird die Konkurrenzsituation durch den wachsamen Gesichtsausdruck der sich misstrauisch beäugenden drei Männer zum Ausdruck gebracht.
