Es werden grundlegende PKI-Konzepte wie digitale Zertifikate, Zertifikationsketten, Gültigkeitsdauer von Zertifikaten, Rückruf von Zertifikaten und Vertrauensmodelle vorgestellt. Am Ende des Kapitels wird das deterministische PKI-Modell nach Maurer [37] beschrieben.
