Im Rahmen der Globalisierung ist die Zahl an Lieferanten, auf die ein Unternehmen für den Bezug seiner Rohstoffe/Vorprodukte zurückgreifen kann, enorm gestiegen und hat die Komplexität des Beschaffungsmanagements erheblich gesteigert.1 Dies stärkt diejenigen Zulieferer, die in Schwellen- und Entwicklungsländern aufgrund fehlender gesetzlicher Rahmenbedingungen auf Kosten des Umweltschutzes und der Menschenrechte billiger produzieren, da oftmals immer noch der Preis als oberstes Entscheidungskriterium für die Lieferantenauswahl in der Praxis gilt.2 Die Ausweitung der Beschaffung auf neue Märkte und Regionen birgt somit umweltbezogene und vor allem soziale Herausforderungen auf globaler wie nationaler Ebene.3 Daraus ergibt sich für Unternehmen die Notwendigkeit, Umwelt- und Sozialstandards auch in Lieferantenketten einzuführen, um nicht nur Verantwortung für das eigene Handeln, sondern auch für den gesamten Wertschöpfungsprozess übernehmen zu können.4 Für die Implementierung und Realisierung solcher Leitlinien ist es wichtig, durch organisationale Innovationen diese in die Strukturen und Prozesse des eigenen Unternehmens aufzunehmen, um somit auch die internen Produktvergabeentscheidungen anzupassen.
