Während die Technologische Frühaufklärung seit den 70er Jahren als eine wichtige Aktivität zur Erhaltung der technologischen Wettbewerbsfähigkeit angesehen wird, hat die marktseitige Frühaufklärung bisher deutlich weniger Beachtung gefunden. Erst durch die erhöhte Frequenz von marktseitigen Disruptionen ist das Interesse in Wirtschaft und Wissenschaft gewachsen. Von einer marktseitigen Frühaufklärung wird hierbei die Aufdeckung wichtiger Veränderungen im soziokulturellen, politischen und Wettbewerbsumfeld erwartet, sowie die Auslösung geeigneter Reaktionen.
