Die Thematisierung von Werten in der betriebswirtschaftlichen Forschung und Lehre hat in den letzten Jahren stetig zugenommen. Auftrieb erfuhr diese Debatte insbesondere durch die weltweite Kritik an Managern, denen ein Versagen hinsichtlich ihrer ethischen Handlungskompetenz vorgeworfen wird. In den USA stehen hierfür besonders die Unter nehmensskandale um Arthur Anderson, World Com und Enron, während in Deutschland Kritik am „Heuschrecken-Kapitalismus“ artikuliert wurde.
