Abstract
The founding and successful development of NTBF is a central aim of entrepreneurs, private corporations, governmental institutions, business associations, and marketoriented societies. Despite the recent downturn of the new economy, venture creation continues at a high level. However, at the same time the failure rate of new firms remains high. This work aimed to address this problem by analyzing the development of NTBFs from a competence perspective. The goal was to find competencies that TMTs needed to start and grow a venture and to understand how the importance of the competencies changes as firms develop. Five research objectives were proposed at the beginning of this study.661
