Evaluation of the IT Artifact
One central aspect of design science is the utility provided by the IT artifact designed. A utility evaluation of the artifact design is based on the development of appropriate evaluation criteria, and an assessment of the artifact against those criteria (March and Smith 1995). Therefore, appropriate metrics and methodologies need to be identified or developed. New evaluation criteria and evaluation methodologies are major research contributions to design science research since they extent the existing knowledge base of information systems research (Hevner et al. 2004).
