Abstract
The term ontology has undergone a number of transformations since its origin as an arcane branch of metaphysics as Guarino and Musen put it (2005). Dating back to Aristotle, the philosophical discipline has continuously evolved. From a simple structuring effort, over the centuries, philosophers have come to concentrate on problems of perception and linguistics. This evolution is explained in the first section, ontology in philosophy (cf. 1.1).
