Im bisherigen Verlauf der Arbeit wurden Determinanten diverser theoretischer Ansätze vorgestellt, die das Verhalten des Verkäufers beeinflussen können.676 Neben den Determinanten wie Motivation, Persönlichkeit, Kompetenz und Rollenwahrnehmung wurde in Anlehnung an die Theorie des geplanten Verhaltens postuliert, dass das Verhalten des Verkäufers von seiner Verhaltensabsicht abhängig ist.677 Auch wird in der Literatur argumentiert, dass Verkaufsmitarbeiter im Handel ihr Verhalten bewusst und zielgerichtet planen und regulieren. Auf der anderen Seite ist der Verlauf eines Verkaufsgesprächs als dynamischer Prozess zu verstehen und nicht nur vom Verkäufer, sondern insbesondere auch vom Kunden abhängig. In der Konsequenz kann angenommen werden, dass der Verkäufer sein Verhalten unabhängig von seinen ursprünglichen Zielsetzungen an den Kunden anpassen muss, was darüber hinaus auch nach der Theorie des adaptiven Verkaufens explizit gefordert wird. Insofern kann ein Verkäufer durch die spezielle Situation im persönlichen Verkauf die Verfolgung seiner Handlungsziele über den gesamten Interaktionsprozess sowie die damit verbundenen Aktivitäten nur bedingt planen und steuern. Die Interaktion mit dem Kunden setzt vielmehr stetig neue Rahmenbedingungen, die sich auf die Ziele und Verhaltensweisen des Verkäufers auswirken können.
