Akademische Spin offs leisten durch den Technologietransfer von der Wissenschaft in die Wirtschaft einen bedeutenden Beitrag zum technologischen und ökonomischen Fortschritt einer Volkswirtschaft. Dazu muss es ihnen gelingen, ihre Technologien in marktfähige Produkte bzw. Dienstleistungen umzusetzen und sich in industrielle Wertschöpfungsketten zu integrieren. Wertschaffende Geschäftsbeziehungen entwi ckeln sich jedoch nicht von selbst und sind auβerdem mit vielfältigen Risiken verbun den, die sogar den Fortbestand des neu gegründeten Unternehmens bedrohen können. Darüber hinaus werden akademische Spin offs häufig nicht als attraktive Partner wahrgenommen, was die Anbahnung von Kooperationen zu etablierten Unternehmen erschwert. Vor diesem Hintergrund zeigt der Beitrag, wie akademische Gründer in der Rolle des Beziehungspromotors Geschäftsbeziehungen gezielt anbahnen, gestalten und pflegen können. Das anschlieβende Fallbeispiel verdeutlicht die Zusammenhänge anhand einer Unternehmensausgründung aus dem Forschungszentrum Karlsruhe.
