Das Lernziel von Kapitel E besteht darin, die Bedeutung des Controlling im Supply Chain Management aufzuzeigen. Zum einen wird die Führung durch sein Controlling in festen Intervallen, zum Beispiel im Rahmen von Monatsabschlüssen, mit Informationen versorgt. Zum anderen muss das Controllingsystem auch Ad-hoc-Abfragen zulassen. Zur Gewährleistung beider Anforderungen, dient die Einbindung der Supply-Chain-Prozesse in ein Planungs-, Steuerungs- und Kontrollsystem.
