In the 1990ies, many companies integrated their internal IT functions, spinning off IT service providers as separate corporate entities. There was a regular wave of start-ups across all industries, seizing manufacturing companies, energy suppliers, airlines, and banks alike. While this trend has subsided over the past years, there is still a great num- ber of companies facing the decision whether or not to spin off their internal service units.
