Abstract
Until the nineties of the 20th century, enterprises primarily optimized internal business processes to reduce process cost and to increase productivity. The basis for these activities was integrated, standard enterprise software, so-called Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) application systems. Technologies like Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) and the Internet at the latest, let companies focus stronger on inter-enterprise processes and tab the potential of distributed value creation.
