Verfolgt man aktuelle Unternehmensmeldungen aus der Software-Branche, stehen Schlagworte wie Cloud-Computing oder Plattform-und Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) immer häufiger im Fokus. Getrieben durch zahlreiche Beispiele von erfolgreich am Markt agierenden reinen SaaS-Anbietern wie Salesforce.com haben auch klassische Software-Unternehmen wie SAP oder Microsoft mit Business ByDesign bzw. der Azure‐ Plattform ihre „as-a-Service“-Aktivitäten in den vergangenen Jahren signifikant ausgebaut. Mit diesen Kernprodukten haben sie die Basis für neue, „as-a-Service“-basierte Software-Ecosysteme gelegt.
