Abstract

Apart from domestic political and economic pressures, advanced capitalist welfare states are increasingly confronted with processes of international economic integration (see Buti et al., 1998, pp. 17-26). The aim of this chapter is to identify the underlying causal forces and analyze the intensity of economic globalization on product, capital, and labor markets. Subsequently, the author will present the principal hypotheses on the welfare state-globalization nexus.
