Introduction – Approaching Service Offshoring

  • Matthias Daub

Abstract

Many multinational corporations (MNCs) have started to shift their internal service processes to other, often developing, countries. Especially American corporations have moved many business processes abroad, primarily to India. What started with the establishment of large service centers in India by companies such as General Electric from the U.S. or British Airways from the UK has now also become common practice for companies from Continental Europe: Lufthansa has set up a finance and accounting center in Krakow, Poland, to serve its European subsidiaries. DHL has built up a large IT center in Prague, Czech Republic, to support its operations worldwide.
