Zusammenfassung

Seit Ende der 80er Jahre gewinnt das Forschungsfeld „International Entrepreneurship“ zunehmend wissenschaftliche Aufmerksamkeit (z.B. Rennie, 1993; Oviatt und McDougall, 1994; Bell, 1995; Jones, 1999; Zahra et al., 2000; Dimitratos und Plakoyiannaki, 2003; Knight und Cavusgil, 2004; Zahra, 2005). Gerade kürzlich wurde in der Zeitschrift für Betriebswirtschaft (ZfB 1/2009) ein Special Issue zur Thematik „International Entrepreneurship“ publiziert. Hierin wurden insbesondere die Determinanten und Motive der Internationalisierung von Start-ups (Meyer-Borchert und Welpe, 2009; Ihrig und Knyphausen- Aufseß, 2009; Schwens und Kabst, 2009), der Verlauf der Internationalisierung von Startups (Licht et al., 2009; Fink et al., 2009) und die Ergebnisse der Internationalisierung von Start-ups (Schweizer, 2009; Al-Laham und Amburgey, 2009) näher ergründet. Insbesondere Studien über junge Unternehmen, die frühzeitig nach ihrer Gründung internationale Unternehmenstätigkeiten entfalten (so genannte „Early Internationalizers“), erlangen bislang somit weitverbreitetes Forschungsinteresse (Oviatt und McDougall, 1994).
