Abstract
From an organizational perspective, the fundamental question of strategic management is how to achieve and to sustain a competitive advantage. During the last decades, globalization has made this already demanding management task even more complex, as declining costs of technology and an increasing need for production flexibility have led to a dramatic increase in competitive intensity. As a result, many organizations face high-velocity or hypercompetitive business environments that require rapid and flexible adaptation to highly changeable and discontinuous environmental conditions.
