  • Chapter

Part of the book series: Managementforschung ((MGTF,volume 19))

Abstract

By giving an overview of the literature, this article illustrates why the network-analytic embeddedness approach provides a highly suitable framework for theoretical and empirical analysis of organizational behavior. First, the embeddedness approach delivers a precise theory of why and how economic behavior is connected to social structures on a micro level by analyzing actors’ social relations. Second, the network-based embeddedness approach offers a fruitful perspective for empirical management studies, as can be illustrated by contributions to corporate finance, human resource management, and international management. Third, it is argued why an extension of the embeddedness approach might promise further progress in the explanation of organizational behavior.
