Der Begriff Marktvorbereitung kann verstanden werden als „readying the ‚marke’ for the change” (Easingwood/Harrington 2002: 658). Subsumiert werden unter dem Begriff spezifische Marketingaktivitäten zur Senkung kundenbezogener Unsicherheiten und zur positiven Beeinflussung der Diffusion (Verbreitung) einer Innovation im Markt. Kommunikationsaktivitäten seitens des innovierenden Unternehmens nehmen dabei einen besonders hohen Stellenwert ein. Der vorliegende Beitrag beschäftigt sich mit dem Konzept der Marktvorbereitung zur Überwindung von Akzeptanzbarrieren von Zielkunden. Dabei wird eine situationsspezifische Vorgehensweise gewählt: Betrachtet werden Innovationen eines besonders hohen Neuigkeitsgrades, so genannte radikale Innovationen. Radikale Innovationen weisen in Bezug auf vier Dimensionen – den Markt, die zugrunde liegende Technologie, die Organisation und das Umfeld – vergleichsweise hohe Diskontinuitäten auf. Mit zunehmendem Neuigkeitsgrad einer Innovation steigen kundenbezogene Unsicherheiten. Erklärungsansätze bieten die Schematheorie, die Adoptions- und Diffusionsforschung sowie die Theorie des wahrgenommenen Risikos.
