In Kapitel 4 wurden das Forschungsmodell, bestehend aus den beiden Modellen I und II sowie dem Teilmodell Unternehmenstyp, und die entsprechenden Hypothesen vorgestellt. Da die Hypothesen bzw. das Forschungsmodell überprüft werden sollen, wird in diesem Kapitel nun die dazu notwendige empirische Untersuchung konzipiert. Zunächst soll im Rahmen der methodischen Grundlagen u. a. ein Analyseverfahren ausgewählt werden, das im weiteren Verlauf der Arbeit verwendet wird (Kapitel 5.1). Anschließend wird die Operationalisierung der Konstrukte betrachtet (Kapitel 5.2). Dabei werden die Konstrukte aus dem Forschungsmodell, die i. d. R. nicht direkt messbar bzw. beobachtbar sind, unter Verwendung von sog. Indikatoren messbar gemacht.
