An Empirical Analysis of the Benefits and Significance of Strategy Enablers in the Implementation of Purchasing Strategies

  • Chapter
Supply Management Research

Abstract

The role of procurement has changed in the past decade. While price negotiations of commodities and resources were the core issues of procurement earlier, modern purchasing now has to face more challenges. Growing marketplaces, globalization, close supplier relations and the expectations of customers have to be combined in the most efficient way possible, leading to new issues chief purchasing officers (CPOs) have to deal with. As new strategies and tools, e.g. e-procurement or procurement controlling, have to be aligned with the companies’ traditional systems, change management is a significant and omnipresent topic in purchasing. The offered change models, however, do not refer to the needs of modern procurement, raising the question “how to implement change?“.
