Zusammenfassung
Performance Management stellt einen komplexen, ganzheitlich orientierten Prozess dar und nimmt in diesem Sinne eine zentrale Rolle bei der Formulierung des unternehmerischen Zielsystems sowie der Unternehmensstrategie ein. Als integraler Bestandteil des Performance Managements dient das Performance Measurement dem Zweck, die Leistungsentstehung und -erbringung aus Sicht des internen Rechnungswesens zu konzeptualisieren und zu steuern. Anders als traditionelle Unternehmenssteuerung mittels finanz- und vergangenheitsorientierter Instrumente des internen Rechnungswesens versuchen Performance Management Systeme (PMS) anhand finanzieller Spitzenkennzahlen messbare Performancewirkungen auf Ursachen zurückzuführen und über eine Verknüpfung von Ursachen und Wirkungen eine Vorsteuerung des künftigen Performancepotenzials zu ermöglichen. Da kausal orientierte Messungen und Analysen ohne ein übergeordnetes Zielsystem nicht realisierbar sind, letzteres aber im Bewusstsein eines nachgelagerten Measurement einen Anstoß zu hinreichender Klarheit und Operationalität erhält, setzen sich das Performance Management und das Performance Measurement wechselseitig voraus.
