Zusammenfassung
Unter dem Begriff Escalation of Commitment wird das Phänomen verstanden, dass Menschen dazu neigen an ihrem Vorgehen festzuhalten, auch wenn neue Informationen andeuten, dass die Vorgehensweise nicht zum gewünschten Ziel führt. So zeigen Forschungsergebnisse beispielsweise, dass die große Mehrzahl von schlecht laufenden Projekten deutlichzu spät abgebrochen wird. Der systematisch verspätete Abbruch scheiternder Projekte (Projekteskalation) wird in der Literatur auf mehrere Faktoren zurückgeführt. Weite Verbreitung hat beispielsweise die Taxonomie von Staw/Ross erlangt, die Projektfaktoren, psychologische/kognitive Faktoren, soziale Faktoren und organisationale Faktoren unterscheiden. Der Fokus der hier vorgestellten Studie liegt auf denkognitiven Faktoren im Rahmen der Projektsteuerung, d.h. den Schwierigkeiten, die Menschen damit haben, rationale Entscheidungen über den Ressourceneinsatz bei risikoreichen Projekten zu treffen und umzusetzen. Die im Folgenden skizzierte empirische Untersuchung nutzt als Analyserahmen eine stark vereinfachte und leicht modifizierte Version des Modells von Zayer.
