This chapter introduces and presents the method and data used to investigate the objectives behind open evaluation and the key factors influencing the output quality of open evaluation. It consists of three sections. The first section locates the empirical approach of part III within the overall research approach of the thesis. The second section describes the research design, including sampling strategy, data collection and data analysis.
