Zusammenfassung
Für die Entstehung von Stars als Human Brands werden in der Literatur zwei gegenläufige Erklärungen vertreten. Hiernach führt entweder höhere Popularität (vgl. Adler 1985, 2006) oder höheres Talent bzw. Können (vgl. Rosen, 1981) zur Herausbildung von Human Brands bzw. Stars. Eine empirische Verifikation, welche diese beiden Theorien allerdings „besser“ geeignet ist, die Herausbildung einer Human Brand zu erklären (und somit die Antwort auf die Frage, ob es sich hierbei eher um „Rosen-Stars“ oder „Adler-Stars“ (vgl. Nüesch 2007) handelt), steht auf sekundäranalytischer Ebene bis heute aus.
Zusammenfassend scheinen beide Superstartheorien empirische Evidenz aufzuweisen. Unstreitig, da auf einer wesentlich breiteren Datengrundlage fußend, lässt sich ein mittelgroßer Zusammenhang zwischen der Leistung eines Sportlers und seinem Einkommen im Sinne Rosens festhalten. Wenngleich ein ähnlich hoher Zusammenhang ebenfalls für die Popularitäts-Hypothese im Sinne Adlers aufgezeigt werden kann, so schränkt eine geringe Datengrundlage die studienübergreifende Generalisierbarkeit des entsprechenden mittleren Befundes ein.

Die Bedingung eines gewissen Mindestbekanntheits- und Erfolgsgrads ergibt sich aus der Tatsache, dass eine Marke eine Differenzierung von technisch-physikalisch gleichartigen anderen Produkten – in diesem Fall also anderen Sportlern – ermöglichen muss (vgl. § 3 (1) des MarkenG).
