Abstract

Despite the large number of planetary probes that have successfully completed orbital and landing missions on Mars [6], we find ourselves left with a gap in the accessible measurement range: That of the intermediate scale. That of long range mobility of planetary dimensions combined with in-situ atmosphere measurements and birds-eye perspective imaging. A very good overview of past concepts, actual attempts and future plans for planetary areal reconnaissance missions can be found in reference [7].
