Abstract
The following article focuses on the classification of information in applications. After a short introduction into classification, the readers will be confronted with the rationale for classifying information and media. Then the main components of a classification scheme, the process- and application-oriented approaches for classification and their advantages and disadvantages are discussed. Finally, a simplified approach for application classification is introduced and the experiences within a world-wide organization are demonstrated.
