The emergence of new Driver Assistance Systems and Driver-2-Vehicle Interfaces brings with it an increased demand for interaction and communication on the one hand, and – in conjunction – the opportunity to change the style of interaction on the other hand. This creates, or even requires, the potential for establishing new modes of input and/or output. In order to avoid cognitive overload, and with consideration of the fact that visual and auditory sensory modalities are already highly stressed, it is recommended to utilize the remaining traditional senses touch, smell, and taste for covering additionally emerging information or supplementary notification demand.
