Der Prozess der Bandbeschichtung ist hoch automatisiert und umweltfreundlich. Er gilt als eines der preiswertesten Beschichtungsverfahren für Stahl und Aluminium. Weltweite wächst die Produktion stetig, aber trotz des Wachstums liegt der Marktanteil bei nur bei 1,5 Prozent der im Jahr produzierten Menge an Stahl und Aluminium [1]. Die Bandbeschichtung steht in einem harten Wettbewerb mit den anderen Beschichtungstechniken. Der Druck, den der weltweite Wettbewerb auf die Kosten ausübt, wird immer stärker. Er fördert jedoch die Innovationen rund um den Prozess und die Produkte. Heute werden neue Ansätze für das Beschichten diskutiert, die zu gänzlich anderen Prozessen führen und zu einer substantiellen Verminderung von Prozess- und Logistik-Kosten beitragen werden.
