Abstract

Due to the operational requirements of typical internal combustion engines (two-stroke, fourstroke, gasoline, and diesel engines), aluminum-silicon alloys are generally the most appropriate piston materials. Large-bore pistons and commercial vehicle pistons, or their crowns or upper parts, however, are often made of steel.
