Abstract

In this chapter a recent application of QuickSim will be presented (year: 2009). The focus here is mainly on the analysis of different approaches for supporting the engine development process: from a “simple” three-dimensional visualization and understanding of the occurring phenomena within the combustion chamber or the airbox up to a reliable virtual engine development. The discussion of these approaches aims to underline the advantages, the drawbacks, the reliability and the predictability of each of them. The investigated engine, as test carrier, is a turbocharged Compressed Natural Gas engine that because of its peculiarities represents a very innovative and promising, but also complex solution in the future engine development.
