Zusammenfassung
Vor dem Hintergrund zunehmender Ansprüche des Menschen an die begrenzten Ressourcen der Erde sowie angesichts wachsender Belastungen des Naturhaushalts, die sich u. a. im Verlust biologischer Vielfalt und in der Energie- und Klimaproblematik manifestieren, hielt das Konzept der Ökosystemdienstleistungen (ÖSD) im Laufe der 1990er-Jahre Einzug in die internationale Umweltdiskussion (z. B. de Groot 1992; Daily 1997; Costanza et al. 1997 ). Wichtige Meilensteine waren u. a. das Millennium Ecosystem Assessment (MEA 2005 ), die TEEB-Studie – Th e Economics of Ecosystems and Biodiversity (TEEB 2009 ), das RUBICODE- Projekt – Rationalising Biodiversity Conservation in Dynamic Ecosystems (z. B. Luck et al. 2009 ), der EASAC policy report – Ecosystem Services and Biodiversity in Europe (EASAC 2009 ) sowie der zur 10.
Die heutige Zivilisation ist die Vereinigung von ausgesucht raffinierten Spitzenleistungen und angestrengtem, sinnlos verschwenderischem Verbrauch (Peter Høeg: Fräulein Smillas Gespür für Schnee).
