Biomoleküle sind die grundlegenden Bausteine des Lebens, denn sie erfüllen wichtige Funktionen in Organismen. Man unterscheidet anorganische Moleküle, deren wichtigstes das Wasser ist, und organische Moleküle, die durch Kohlenstoffketten und damit verbundene funktionelle Gruppen unterschiedlicher Natur charakterisiert sind.
