Zusammenfassung

London zählt unbestritten zu den Alpha Global Cities, d. h. den Weltstädten auf der höchsten Stufe des globalen Städtesystems. Diese Städte, zu denen stets New York und Tokio, mitunter auch Hongkong und Singapur, gerechnet werden, bilden gewißermaßen die Epizentren der Weltwirtschaft. Sie sind die wichtigsten Knotenpunkte des Welthandels und die bedeutendsten Standorte der globalen Finanz-, Versicherungs- und Immobilienwirtschaft. Auch im Hinblick auf Stadtarchitektur, Kultur, Kunst und Bildung nehmen diese Global Cities höchster Rangstufe eine herausragende Position im weltweiten Städtesystem ein.
