Zusammenfassung
Der Begriff Allergie wurde 1906 von Clemens von Pirquet eingeführt. Er bezeichnet eine spezifische Reaktion des adaptiven Immunsystems gegen harmlose Fremd-Antigene, die eigentlich keine Immunreaktion erfordern würden. Die stattfindende Immunreaktion ist dabei ein ganz normaler Vorgang, der aber als Allergie bezeichnet wird, da sie sich nicht gegen ein Pathogen, sondern gegen ein harmloses Antigen richtet. Das auslösende Antigen wird dabei Allergen genannt. Die allergische Reaktion kann teilweise sehr stark ausfallen und zu erheblichen Schädigungen des Organismus führen.
