Zusammenfassung
Seit Mitte der achtziger Jahre wird Botulinumtoxin A (Btx A) weltweit bei zahlreichen Erkrankungen, die durch pathologisch erhöhte Muskelaktivität charakterisiert sind, erfolgreich angewendet. Dazu zählen insbesondere fokale Dystönien wie der Torticollis spasmodicus, die spasmodische Dysphonie oder der Blepharospasmus sowie spastische Bewegungsstörungen, die bei der infantilen und auch der erworbenen Zerebralparese (nach Apoplex, Trauma etc.) auftreten können. In Deutschland bestehen Zulassungen derzeit für den Blepharospasmus, Hemispasmus facialis, Torticollis spasmodicus, spastischen Spitzfuß bei infantiler Zerebralparese und die Armspastik nach Schlaganfall. Die aktuelle Forschung befasst sich mit einer Vielzahl weiterer Anwendungsgebiete, insbesondere der Behandlung chronischer Schmerzpatienten. Sie werden idealerweise von Spezialisten kooperierender medizinischer Fachrichtungen behandelt.
