Zusammenfassung
Die wahrscheinlich erste Kniearthroplastik wurde durch Ferguson im Jahre 1861 als Resektionsarthroplastik durchgeführt. Der Patient sei fünf Jahre später mit dem Resultat zufrieden gewesen. Nach den Versuchen von Gluck 1890 mit Elfenbeinscharnierprothesen waren es dann Murphy, Putti und Albee, welche zwischen 1913 und 1928 Fascia lata-Interponate versuchten. Campbell verwendete 1921 präpatellares Bursagewebe. Bear setzte 1918 gechromte Schweineblase ein, Sampson 1949 Cellophane. Brown verwendete 1958 Haut, Kuhan und Potter 1950 Nylongewebe. Die Resultate waren aber derart inkonstant, dass die Arthrodese immer noch den Golden standard bei der Gonarthrosebehand-lung darstellte. 1938 war es dann Boyd, der das erste metallische Interpositionsmaterial verwendete, wohl inspiriert durch die Erfahrungen von Smith-Petersen im Hüftbereich. 1943 wurden im Massachusetts General Hospital Femurteilprothesen aus Metall entwickelt. Ende der 50er Jahre war es McKeever und 1966 Macintosh, welche Tibiaplateauersatzprothesen einsetzten. Die Originalprothese von Macintosh bestand aus Acryl gemäß einer Idee von Janson aus Dänemark. 1969 berichteten Platt und Pepler über Resultate mit geformten Femurprothesen. Achsgeführte Knieprothesen wurden seit den späten 50er Jahren verwendet (Walldius, Guepar etc.).
