Zusammenfassung

Leopoldo Fregoli (geboren 1867 in Rom, gestorben 1936 in Rom) war der berühmteste Verwandlungskünstler („Quickchange-artist“) seiner Zeit. Er war in der Lage, auf der Bühne nicht nur die Kleidung, sondern auch die Stimme, das Verhalten und den Charakter verschiedenster Personen in kürzester Zeit anzunehmen. Diese besondere künstlerische Gabe Fregolis, andere in überzeugender Weise im schnellen Wechsel zu imitieren, führte dazu, dass das hier beschriebene Missidentifikationssyndrom nach ihm benannt wurde. Die Erstbeschreibung erfolgte durch Courbon und Fail 1927 (Ellis et al. 1994).
