Das Risiko, bei einem Verkehrsunfall eine Verletzung der Halswirbelsäule zu erleiden, hängt von zahlreichen kollisions- und insassenbezogenen Faktoren ab. Ziel dieses Kapitels ist es, anhand einer Serie biomechanischer In-vitro-Studien [5, 1113] zu erörtern, ob und wenn ja, wie die Beschleunigungscharakteristik des Fahrzeuges, der Grad der muskulären Anspannung des Insassen und der Grad einer degenerativen Vorschädigung der Bandscheiben dieses Verletzungsrisiko beeinflussen.
