Die Kompressionsneuropathie des N. cutaneus femoris lateralis (NCFL), bekannt als Meralgia paraesthetica (MP), gehört zu den selteneren Kompressionssyndromen und betrifft einen rein sensiblen Nerven. Bereits im Jahre 1895 hatte Roth über 15 Fälle dieses Kompressionssyndroms berichtet. Im gleichen Jahr erschien die Mitteilung von Bernhardt (1895). Sigmund Freud (1895) diagnostizierte kurze Zeit später bei sich selbst eine Meralgie und vermutete eine Kompression des N. cutaneus femoris lateralis in der Leiste.
