Abstract
The main goal of THA is for the patient to have almost the same functional hip joint as the normal joint, and use the implant as long as possible at the same time. Allowed hip joint ROM (range of motion) may be one of the most important deciding factors for maintaining normal daily activity. However, preexisting total hip arthroplasty systems allow range of joint motion far less than that permitted by the normal hip joint. If one tries to flex the hip joint beyond what is allowed by conventional hip systems, an impingement, even dislocation and loosening may occur.
