The preceeding mathematical framework provides a number of analytical tools for binary signal analysis. A fundamental task in this field is best described by Papez’ neural integration puzzle regarding the limbic system of human and animal brains ([LED92]). That neurons integrate signals is a well-known fact, but less evident is the way in which this integration takes place, what the integration mechanism is like, how we can backtrack a neuronal response pattern x(t) to those input patterns that determine its shape, and finally, how the response pattern x(t) can be analyzed regarding its constituent components.
