Abstract

It has long been recognised that the problem of representing and reasoning with a large collection of knowledge and evidence (both of which can be called information) is a fundamental issue in Artificial Intelligence (AI), particularly, when this collection involves uncertainty. To make decisions based on this large amount of information, we need formal approaches that allow for rational reasoning to take place.
