We are going to describe a deep topological principle, Gromov’s symplectic nonsqueezing theorem , alias the “principle of the symplectic camel”. As we will see in the next chapter, the main tool allowing the application of Gromov’s theorem to the study of classical and quantum uncertainties is the derived notion of symplectic capacity, which is a typically “classical” object.
