Spectral Decomposition I

Abstract

In this chapter the decomposition of a self-adjoint operator in discrete and essential parts is discussed, with an important application to the hydrogen atom hamiltonian. Other applications include the discrete spectrum in case of unbounded potentials in ℝ n and the comparison of the spectra of different self-adjoint extensions (in case of finite deficiency indices).
