Crossed products by ℝ and Connes’ Thom Isomorphism

Part of the Oberwolfach Seminars book series (OWS, volume 36)

In this chapter, we deal mainly with C*-algebras, although we sometimes use certain dense subalgebras. We define C*-algebraic crossed products in greater detail than in Chapter 5 and discuss Pontrjagin Duality and Takesaki-Takai Duality for Abelian locally compact groups. These are used to compute the K-theory for crossed products by ℝ. The result is closely related to the Pimsner-Voiculescu sequence. A recommended source for further reading is [126].
