Abstract
Albert-Auguste Cochon de Lapparent (1839–1908) est issu d’une noble famille vendéenne. Son grand-père (première promotion de l’École polytechnique, 1794) et son père furent polytechniciens ; de Lapparent fut admis à l’École polytechnique en 1858, et il en est sorti majeur de sa promotion. Il est entré à l’École des mines et il en est sorti encore premier en 1864. Après des voyages en Allemagne et en Italie, de Lapparent est rentré en France, pour devenir conservateur-adjoint à l’École des mines où, à la demande d’Achille Delesse, il pris en charge la rédaction de la Revue de géologie.
